Introduction

BESS Conference on Zero Waste and Circular Economy will be held in Dec 2021 online via Zoom. In a region full of biomass resources, Singapore lies in the center of South East Asia where biomass and biomass wastes are generated in large amounts. Additionally, the population of the region is currently at 675 million and growing at a rapid pace, correlating with a similar growth in waste generation. However, most countries now dispose these wastes in environment-unfriendly and unsustainable manners, like landfills, incineration or just discarding into open land or in the ocean. These methods generate significant greenhouse gas emissions and create future health hazards, in addition to killing wildlife and sea creatures. Therefore, the goal of achieving zero waste and using circular economy concepts for waste management has been of growing interest for many governments, including Singapore which launched its Zero Waste Nation goal in 2019. In this conference, we will explore these concepts and study the significant uses and potential for wastes towards achieving the Zero Waste goal using biotechnology and bioprocessing methods.

Abstract Submission

If you are interested in sharing your experiences in BESS Conference on Zerowaste and Circular Econoly 2021, please submit an abstract of your presentation and biography using the abstract template and Name it as "Abstract_Your_Name" and submit it to Dr. Geng Anli at gan2@np.edu.sg.

There will be both poster and oral presentation sessions. The Conference Scientific Committee will select abstracts for the oral presentations. Abstracts not selected will be put in the poster session and are eligible for poster judging.

BESS Achievement Award 2021

In order to recognize the importance of zerowaste and circular economy research, Bioenergy Society of Singapore (BESS) has created BESS Achievement Award 2021 to award excellent and innovative lead researchers and industrial professionals. This prestigious prize awards excellent projects presented in BESS Conference on Zerowaste and Circular Economy, Dec 13-14, 2021.

The call for nominations is open until Dec 1, 2021. All conference participants are entitled to nominate yourself. If interested, please fill the nomination form and submit it together with your CV (no more than 2 pages) to Dr. Geng Anli at gan2@np.edu.sg by Dec 1, 2021. The award will be presented on Dec 14, 2021 (Day 2), at the conference.
