About Bioenergy

Bioenergy refers to all forms of energy extracted from biomass - materials derived from recently living plants, animals or their byproducts. Biomass used for bioenergy production include dedicated energy crops and trees, agricultural food and feed crops, agricultural crop wastes and residues, wood wastes and residues, aquatic plants, animal wastes, municipal wastes, and other waste materials.

Since the energy sources are recently living organisms, bioenergy is renewable. The energy can come in the forms of electricity, liquid, solid, and gaseous fuels, heat, chemicals, and other materials. Bioenergy is widely believed to be able to slow down climate change, reduces the heavy reliance on fossil fuels, and improve on agricultural waste management.

Some common types of bioenergies: algae fuel, biobutanol, biodiesel, biogas, biogasoline, cellulosic ethanol, ethanol fuel.
